Defence Minister Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos attends the signing of the Donation Agreement for four power generators to type “S” frigates

The Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos attended today, Tuesday 22 February, the event for the signing of the Donation Agreement for the supply by donation and the installation of four (4) power generator pairs, on one more type “S” frigate of the Hellenic Navy, which was held in the Supreme Naval Council’s Hall at HNGS, and takes place in the context of the frigate power generators replacement programme, named “KYKNOS III”.
The Agreement was signed by Mr. Panos Laskaridis, President of the “Aikaterini Laskaridis” foundation, shipowner and honorary Rear Admiral, as sponsor of the donation, the
Chief/HNGS Rear Admiral Stylianos Petrakis HN, the Vice President of the “BAUDOUIN” Company Mr. Emmanuel Tellier – L’Hernault, as supplier, and the General Director of the “P. Theodoropoulos Ship Repairs LTD” Mr. Panagiotis Theodoropoulos, as installer.
The event was also attended by the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Hardalias and the Chief/HNDGS General Konstantinos Floros.
In the context of executing the agreement, “BAUDOUIN” Company undertakes to deliver to the Hellenic Navy four power generator pairs to be installed on one more type “S” frigate, also including the provision of a number of spare parts, tools and support.
The total expenditure, supply and installation , adding up to nearly a million Euros, will be covered by Mr. Panagiotis Laskaridis. The completion of the project is scheduled
within fourteen (14) months since the signing of the Agreement (delivery of power generator pairs – installation – testing).
This particular donation is an implementation to a third frigate of the conversion already successfully carried out to frigates “AIGAION” and “ELLI”.
By successfully replacing the power generator pairs with newer type, a greater availability of the power generating installation is achieved, for a time period that will cover the expectancy regarding the operational exploitation of type “S” frigates, ensuring their simpler and low-cost maintenance and repair, using at the same time the detached pairs as substitutes, for the support of similar type frigates.
